Every Tahoe pairs its engine with a 10-speed automatic. Both V8s use Dynamic Fuel Management. The Duramax turbo-diesel makes the most torque in the lineup. Properly equipped, the Tahoe tows up to 8,400 pounds. That ceiling belongs to one build: the 5.3L V8 in rear-wheel drive with the available Max Trailering Package. The package adds extra-capacity cooling and an integrated trailer brake controller. It also brings the Advanced Trailering Package with Hitch View.
On four-wheel-drive models, the Autotrac two-speed transfer case helps maintain traction on wet boat ramps and slick pavement.

The Tahoe seats seven, eight, or nine depending on configuration. Second-row captain’s chairs are standard on the Premier and High Country. They are available on the LT, RST, and Z71. The 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel inline-six is available on the LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country. It is not offered on the LS. The diesel produces 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque.
Every Tahoe includes Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Blind Zone Steering Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, HD Surround Vision, Reverse Automatic Braking, Rear Pedestrian Alert, IntelliBeam, Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist, and Safety Alert Seat as standard equipment.
Magnetic Ride Control uses magnetorheological fluid in the dampers to adjust stiffness in real time as road conditions change. The available Four-Corner Air Ride Adaptive Suspension replaces coil springs with air springs. It lets ride height rise for obstacles or drop for easier entry, and it adds automatic load leveling.
